New England Revolution forward, Taylor Twellman serves as the spokesperson for Anchored for Safety.
As the starting forward for the New England Revolution, Taylor
Twellman (#20) is one of the rising young stars in Major League Soccer.
Taylor's dedication to the safety of soccer players everywhere prompted him to become Anchored for Safety's spokesperson.
Taylor began his athletic career at St. Louis University High School
in St. Louis, Mo., where he lettered in soccer, baseball, basketball
and football. He totaled115 goals and 35 assists while at St. Louis
University High School, including a school record 47 goals as a junior.
During this period, Taylor also played regularly on various U.S. youth
national teams.
Taylor went on to play soccer for Maryland, where he led the Terrapins
to the NCAA College Cup Semifinals. In 1998 he was named Soccer
America's Freshman of the Year. A year later, after a successful U-20
World Cup with the U.S. National Team, Taylor was off to Germany,
where he played for three years for Bundesliga club 1860 Munich. In
2002, Taylor was selected by the Revolution as the second pick in the
first round of the SuperDraft. During his time with the Revolution, Taylor
has been noted for his incredibly high work ethic. His level of energy on
the field has earned him several honors including:
- Eight caps for the U.S. National Team as of March 1, 2005
- Co-leader in MLS in goals scored (15) in 2003
- Three-time MLS All Star, in 2002, 2003 and 2005
- MLS Budweiser Scoring Champion in 2002
- Midnight Riders Man of the Year in 2003
- Revolution Budweiser Scoring Champion in 2002 and 2003
- Revolution Honda Most Valuable Player in 2002 and 2003
Taylor recently married his high school sweetheart, Lindsay. He comes
from a family of athletes. His brother, James, was drafted by the San
Jose Earthquakes in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. Father, Tim, played
professional soccer for the Minnesota Kicks, Tulsa Roughnecks and the
Chicago Sting in the old NASL. His grandfather, Jim Delsing, played
professional baseball, and his Uncle, Jay Delsing, is a member of the
PGA Tour. Taylor was offered a professional baseball contract by the
Kansas City Royals, but opted for a soccer career instead.
